When the film adaptation of Jeff Kinney’s beloved book series hit theaters in 2011, fans of the "Wimpy World" were cautiously optimistic. The first film, released in 2010, had successfully translated the stick-figure doodles and misadventures of Greg Heffley to the big screen. But it was the sequel, Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules , that truly captured the chaotic, hilarious, and surprisingly heartfelt spirit of the source material.
While the film is not an explosive blockbuster, the BD’s AVC encoded 1080p transfer (in 1.85:1 aspect ratio) captures the texture of the Heffley household in a way streaming compression cannot. You notice the peeling wallpaper in the basement where Rodrick practices drums. You see the freckles on Greg’s face. The vibrant colors of the school dance sequence pop off the screen.
