The game runs at a smooth 30fps on Switch hardware. The lower resolution of the Switch screen (in handheld mode) actually enhances the VHS aesthetic, making the pixelation feel intentional rather than a technical limitation.

: There are five distinct endings to uncover. Each successful playthrough reveals more about Amanda's origins and the fate of those who watched the tapes before you.

Amanda the Adventurer is a first-person horror puzzle game developed by MANGLEDmaw Games and published by DreadXP. It masquerades as a lost children’s animated series from the early 2000s—think Dora the Explorer but with a deep, unsettling void where her soul should be.

"A terrifying trip down memory lane that fits perfectly in your pocket. Just don't watch the tapes alone at 2 AM."

For fans of the analog horror genre, the handheld experience is surprisingly effective. There is something uniquely unsettling about holding the haunted object (the console) in your hands, inches from your face, as Amanda stares back at you through the screen. The version runs smoothly, capturing the grainy, VHS-style aesthetic perfectly. The developers, MANGLEDmaw Games, have ensured that the scan lines and CRT distortion effects translate well to the Switch’s LCD or OLED panels.

Amanda the Adventurer was made by a small indie team of just four people. When you buy the game on the eShop, you ensure that these developers can eat, pay rent, and create the sequel (which has already been teased). Piracy hurts indie developers far more than it hurts companies like EA or Ubisoft.

: Players respond to Amanda’s questions. While the PC version uses a keyboard, the Switch version utilizes preset answer options designed for controller play.
