The Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) began working on the translation in 1948, following Pope Pius XII's encyclical Divino Afflante Spiritu , which encouraged using original language manuscripts.

Consists of the Confraternity OT with a fresh, complete translation of Genesis.

Note that while the 1970 version is a classic, most modern editions have been updated to the New American Bible Revised Edition (NABRE) , which updated the Old Testament in 2011 to better reflect modern scholarship.
