Why specifically seek out ? The answer lies in the cinematography of Jean Tournier.
Collectors will want the BluRay for the archival supplements often missing from streaming services. While versions vary by region (Arrow Video and Universal have both released editions), look for:
Fred Zinnemann, a director known for his integrity and realism ( High Noon , From Here to Eternity ), opted for an almost documentary-style aesthetic. Shot across dozens of locations in France, Italy, and Austria, the film avoids the "tourist" gaze. Instead, the cinematography by Jean Tournier captures the grey, rainy streets of Paris and the dusty roads of the French countryside with a somber, authentic palette.
Zinnemann (director of High Noon and From Here to Eternity ) directs with the eye of a documentarian. He never judges the Jackal; he merely observes. This clinical distance makes the final moments—a sudden, brutal inversion of everything that came before—devastating.
The film's influence can be seen in many later thrillers, including the work of Martin Scorsese and Brian De Palma. The film's use of suspense and misdirection has been studied by filmmakers and screenwriters, and its impact can be seen in films such as "The Bourne Identity" and "Takedown".

OpenFOAM Funding 2025 - Please take 1 minute to read
Supporting organisations currently provide €250k for maintenance of OpenFOAM, i.e. of the order of 0.1% of the revenue of big commercial CFD. This current total is inadequate. Funding needs to rise to €500k this year, and continue to rise similarly over the next 3-4 years. Organisations with commercial dependence on OpenFOAM should contribute to the cost of sustaining it.
The OpenFOAM Foundation provides Maintenance Plans for organisations to support sustainability. There are three levels of Plan: Platinum (€ 100k per year); Gold (€ 25k); and, Silver (€ 5k). The funding supports a full-time team of core developers with combined skills in software design, programming, numerics, science and engineering, at CFD Direct (including OpenFOAM’s creator, Henry Weller).
