Sketchup Section Plane Transparency Link

Use case : Keep edges fully opaque while making fill 90% transparent to see through but still locate the plane.

While this helps you locate the plane in 3D space, it creates three major problems:

SketchUp does not have a dedicated slider labeled "Section Plane Transparency" in the default tray. However, you can achieve a basic level of transparency through the palette. sketchup section plane transparency

A light grey section fill with 20-30% transparency is ideal for architecture. It darkens the cut walls just enough to distinguish them from the background but allows textures behind to show through.

This is the industry standard. It allows you to replace the default SketchUp section fill with any material or texture. You can set the opacity of the cut face to exactly what you want (e.g., 15% black). It also fixes the "double line" bug on curved sections. Use case : Keep edges fully opaque while

There is a common confusion between the plane itself and the cut face it creates. When you right-click a section plane and select "Active Cut," SketchUp colors the inside of your model at the cut line. This "Section Fill" has its own transparency rules.

:

The solution is adjusting the of the Section Plane. But unlike a standard material, you cannot simply right-click the plane and slide an opacity bar. You have to use specific workflows.

For a dynamic transparent section cut effect, some advanced users use this method: A light grey section fill with 20-30% transparency

The Style settings we adjusted in Part 2 are . If you update a Style and create a Scene, that scene will remember the transparency settings.
