Windows 8 was a transitional operating system for Microsoft. It introduced stricter driver signing requirements and a new driver architecture compared to Windows 7. While Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 generally have better generic driver support, Windows 8 often fails to automatically find the software for legacy hardware like the U232-P9. To ensure compatibility with Windows 8, it is best to use a driver version known to support that OS (e.g., version 13.2.98.130315). Reopen Device Manager
Below are the standard drivers associated with the U232-P9 model. Most users will find they need the Prolific driver, as this chipset is most common in this specific form factor. While Windows 8
The U232-p9 is typically based on the or a similar bridge controller. It allows older serial (RS-232) devices to connect via a modern USB port. Windows 8, released after many of these chips, sometimes lacks the correct .INF files or digital signatures, causing the dreaded "Device descriptor request failed" or a yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager.
