For the first time, the prosecution presents a piece of physical evidence that Rusty’s high-priced lawyer, Raymond Horgan (Bill Camp), cannot easily refute. A partial thumbprint, consistent with Rusty’s, is found not on the murder weapon (a fire poker, as suspected) but on a wine glass in Carolyn’s sink—washed but not obliterated. The date stamp on the glass? The night of the murder. Rusty’s explanation—that he had a glass of wine with Carolyn before leaving—now looks less like a confession of infidelity and more like a confession of presence.
