Hard drives fail; it is an unfortunate reality of technology. If your internal PS4 drive crashes, you lose your installed games and, more importantly, your save files. While the PS4 Plus cloud is the best way to backup saves, having your game library backed up externally means you won’t have to spend days re-downloading titles if your console needs replacing or resetting.
