Jolly Phonics Reading Books Level 1 -
Level 1 is the first of four stages in the Jolly Phonics decodable reading scheme. These books are 100% decodable, meaning they use a carefully controlled vocabulary that only includes the 42 letter sounds children learn in the first stage of the Jolly Phonics program .
Level 1 employs controlled vocabulary repetition. For instance, in The Snake , the word hiss appears four times across two pages, reinforcing the /s/ digraph (though 'ss' is taught as two separate /s/ sounds at this stage, not yet as a digraph). jolly phonics reading books level 1
Turn to the inside front cover of the Jolly Phonics Reader. It lists the tricky words in that book (e.g., I, the, he ). Do not ask the child to sound these out. Say: "This word is 'the.' Can you say 'the'?" Write it on a whiteboard. Level 1 is the first of four stages
