In 2007, high definition was still a battleground. Blu-ray had won the format war against HD DVD, but hardware was expensive. A 1080p television was a luxury. 720p became the sweet spot for digital consumption. It offered a massive leap in quality over the standard definition (480p) that dominated the DVD era, but it was manageable enough for the computer monitors of the time. Watching Bourne leap between rooftops in 720p was a revelation compared to the pixelated bootlegs of the past.
