There is a growing divide between older cisgender queers who lived through the AIDS crisis (and who may not understand neopronouns or non-binary identity) and younger trans people. Bridging this gap through storytelling, listening sessions, and shared activism is crucial. Hopkins ) are the same ones used to deny trans people bathroom access. Furthermore, the violence statistics are intertwined. Large LGBTQ non-profits (like the Human Rights Campaign and GLAAD) have historically focused on marriage equality. While important, these issues did little for a homeless trans youth.
