This command (part of pcsc-tools – install via brew install pcsc-tools ) will output a live log. If your Woxter reader is working, you will see: Reader 0: Woxter Smart Card Reader Combo 00 00 Card state: Card removed,
Why this works: The ccid driver from Homebrew is more up-to-date than Apple’s built-in one and supports 99% of generic smart card readers, including the Woxter Combo.
If you are using the reader for secure government or banking transactions, you must install the provided by the National Police (Cuerpo Nacional de la Policía):
This reader connects via USB (usually USB-A, sometimes with a USB-C adapter for modern Macs). While it works plug-and-play on Windows 10/11 via generic CCID drivers, macOS is stricter. Apple’s CryptoTokenKit and CCID frameworks require signed, approved drivers, which Woxter often does not provide directly.
: Since the installer is from a third-party source, macOS may block it initially. To allow it, go to System Settings > Privacy & Security and click "Open Anyway" for the blocked package.
After installing, run: pcsc_scan
