The episode opens with a chilling sequence that defines the protagonist's life. We are introduced to a young Park Soo-ha and his father sitting in a car. The atmosphere is peaceful until they are rear-ended by another vehicle. What seems like a minor accident turns into a brutal murder.

Just as the killer approaches the terrified boy, a school bus stops nearby. A high school student, Jang Hye-sung, steps out. She witnesses the crime scene. In a moment of pure bravery (and perhaps naivety), she confronts the killer and convinces him to spare the boy, using a lie about the bus driver calling the police.
