Blackgate is set in the same universe as Arkham Origins, offering a new storyline that runs parallel to the main game's events. Players take on the role of Batman as he investigates a mysterious prison break at Blackgate Penitentiary. The game features many of the same gameplay mechanics as Arkham Origins, including combat, stealth, and exploration.
