This is the one that goes viral most often. A male narrator, speaking calmly in Norwegian (with subtitles in viral clips), points to a diagram of a flaccid penis. He explains that during puberty, the penis grows longer and wider. Then, he shows an erection. He explains that erections happen randomly, without sexual thought, and that "it’s just the blood rushing in." He then addresses the anxiety of "size." He shows a range of cartoon penises—long, short, thick, thin, curved—and states simply: "They are all normal. They all work." For millions of teenage boys who have only seen pornography, this five-second clip is a lifesaver.
NRK has taken a bold role in educating Norwegian youth about puberty, most notably through the science program Newton: Pubertet
As the landscape of children's television changes and older classics are retired, looking back at Pubertet offers a fascinating glimpse into how Norway approaches one of the most difficult topics in a young person's life. pubertet nrk
The series actively fights against the two great enemies of adolescent development: and ignorance . By normalizing every weird noise, smell, and shape that puberty produces, NRK’s Pubertet gives kids a mental checklist: Is this happening to me? It happened to the cartoon. I am okay.
In many countries, sex education is relegated to a single, terrifying PE class or a whispered conversation between parents and children. NRK took a different approach by investing in a high-budget, prime-time series dedicated solely to the topic. This is the one that goes viral most often
Pubertet is the perfect embodiment of this philosophy. It strips away the metaphor. There are no storks. There are no "special hugs." There is just a cartoon teenager standing in front of a mirror, examining a pimple on their butt cheek, and explaining to the viewer that "this is completely normal."
Critics have noted that the series could go further in discussing LGBTQ+ experiences or digital life (e.g., online pressure, porn literacy), but NRK has updated later seasons to address these topics more directly. Then, he shows an erection
NRK provides several series that explore the human body and adolescence from different angles: Newton: Pubertet
NRK Supers vitenskapsprogram, , har en egen serie dedikert til puberteten ledet av Line Jansrud. Serien er kjent for å være direkte, ærlig og lærerik.
