The Thanksgiving dinner scene where Norman realizes Peter is Spider-Man. The silent acting between Dafoe and Maguire is perfection.

Marc Webb | Starring: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans

The first ten issues of The Amazing Spider-Man (1963–1964) represent more than just the start of a comic book series; they mark the birth of a cultural icon. Created by and Steve Ditko , these issues fundamentally changed the superhero genre by introducing a hero who struggled with the same mundane problems as his readers—paying bills, caring for an elderly relative, and navigating high school social hierarchies. The Foundation of the Mythos

The Skater Boi Reboot Andrew Garfield brings the quips, the skateboard, and the chemistry with Emma Stone that could power a small city. Unfortunately, he also brings a mystery about his parents that nobody asked for. The Lizard looks like a rejected Power Rangers villain, but Gwen Stacy’s brains save the day. For now.

Jon Watts | Starring: Tom Holland, Jake Gyllenhaal

Following the divisive Spider-Man 3 , Marc Webb rebooted the franchise with a darker, more mysterious tone. Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker is cool, skateboarding, and sarcastic—arguably the most comic-accurate physical Spider-Man (he quips during fights).

Yes, emo Peter Parker is hilarious (the jazz club strut is unintentional comedy gold). But the film betrays the arcs set up in Spider-Man 2 . Harry Osborn’s redemption feels rushed, Topher Grace’s Eddie Brock is miscast, and the retcon of Uncle Ben’s death (Sandman did it? Really?) undermines the original film’s moral simplicity. Still, it’s impossible to hate entirely because of Raimi’s visual flair.

Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, Rodney Rothman

The Art Apocalypse Wait, this isn't live action? It doesn't matter. This animated masterpiece makes the previous eight look like student films. Hundreds of Spider-people. A plot about canon events that breaks your heart. Spider-Punk. Spider-Cat. Spider-Rex. The cliffhanger ending leaves you screaming into the void. It is the best Spider-Man movie since Spider-Man 2 .

For nearly two decades, Spider-Man 2 was considered the greatest superhero movie of all time. It still might be.

With that in mind, let’s start from the bottom and work our way to the best.
