The play takes place on Thanksgiving Day, in the Parker family's suburban home. The family consists of Jack, the father; Adele, the mother; and their two children, Stephanie and Peter. The story begins with Stephanie and her boyfriend, Macon, arriving at the house, eager to join in the family's Thanksgiving celebrations. However, as the evening progresses, it becomes clear that Stephanie's visit is not just a social call. She has a deeper motive for returning home, one that is linked to a traumatic event in her past.
