This paper examines the emergence of (a macaronic blend of Malayalam and English) as a legitimate literary medium in the production and consumption of romantic fiction and short story collections. Traditionally, Malayalam romantic literature adhered to a formal, script-based lexicon. However, the proliferation of social media, instant messaging, and digital publishing platforms has given rise to a new genre of romantic narratives written in the Roman script. This study analyzes how Manglish romantic fiction navigates themes of modern love, urban anxiety, and cultural hybridity. Using close reading and linguistic analysis of popular digital collections, this paper argues that Manglish serves not as a corruption of Malayalam but as an authentic vehicle for representing the intimate, code-switched reality of contemporary Malayali youth.
