Her turning point came during a research trip to Naoshima Island. Witnessing how Tadao Ando’s architecture interacted with the natural light and the Seto Inland Sea, Tachikawa realized she wasn't interested in building new structures, but rather in editing the relationship between existing structures and the people who move through them.

She harvested invasive reeds that were choking the local waterways. She dried them, wove them into massive, undulating sheets, and suspended them between the wooden pillars of an abandoned Shinto shrine.
