Director Donovan Marsh deserves credit for the film’s vibrant aesthetic. Set in 1991, is a time capsule of neon windbreakers, cassette tapes, and the death rattle of Apartheid (the political backdrop is subtle but present—references to Mandela’s release and the shifting social order loom in the background).
