While the "LGB" (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual) community fights for marriage and adoption rights, the often fights for the most basic right of all: the right to exist publicly.
When you support the transgender community, you protect the entire queer community. The arguments used against trans people today ("It’s just a phase," "You’re a threat to children") are the exact same arguments used against gay people forty years ago.
As we look toward the future, the visibility of the transgender community continues to grow. This visibility brings both progress and backlash, highlighting the urgent need for continued advocacy. True allyship within LGBTQ culture means moving beyond symbolic gestures to support policies that protect trans lives and celebrate trans joy. By honoring the history and embracing the diversity of transgender people, the LGBTQ community as a whole becomes more inclusive, more resilient, and more reflective of the beautiful complexity of the human experience.
