For games using SafeDisc (), some users copy the driver from a Windows 7 machine to their Windows 10 Windows\system32\drivers folder.
This is the most common culprit. Older copy protection drivers like StarForce and early versions of SecuROM were written for Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7. These drivers operated at a very low level (Ring 0) to prevent tampering.
When you launched the game, the software would check for the original physical CD/DVD in your disc drive. The SafeDisc driver would scan the disc for "weak sectors"—intentional manufacturing errors that could not be reproduced by consumer CD burners.
