Legend holds that when Guru Gobind Singh Ji was meditating on the banks of the river Sutlej, he entered a deep Sunn Samadhi (state of cosmic void). Upon returning to external consciousness, he composed the Akal Ustat. The Brahm Kavach section was declared by the Guru as a mantra for absolute protection—a shield that protects the devotee’s body, mind, and spirit from evil eyes, demons, enemies, and disease.
