The movie takes place six months after the events of the second installment. Neo (Keanu Reeves) is still recovering from his encounter with Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving), and the human resistance is on the brink of collapse. The machines, led by the intelligent program known as the Oracle (Gloria Foster), propose a truce to prevent further destruction. Meanwhile, Neo embarks on a perilous journey to understand the nature of the Matrix and his role within it.
