The Troll Face was created on September 19, 2008, by Carlos Ramirez, an 18-year-old student from Oakland. Using Microsoft Paint, he drew the mischievous, wide-grinned character for a comic mocking the pointlessness of online arguments on . Ironically, while the comic critiqued trolling, the image itself was immediately adopted by trolls as their universal mascot. 2.
